New Head-Mount Thermocouple Transmitter Provides High-Voltage Isolation to Prevent Damage and Errors - Acromag adds an enhanced version of their USB-configured thermocouple/millivolt input transmitters with an isolation barrier to protect from surges, reduce noise, and eliminate ground loop errors.

The latest release in Acromag’s new ST130 series of low-cost, temperature transmitters is the Model ST133, an isolated thermocouple/millivolt signal conditioner. This high-performance version of the economy-level ST132 also converts sensor input signals from eight thermocouple types or a ±100mV range and outputs a proportional 4-20mA process control signal. However, the addition of 1500V isolation between the input and output circuit shields equipment from high-voltage surges and transient signals. The isolation also breaks up ground loops and reduces signal noise that could interfere with measurement accuracy. Installing this output loop-powered two-wire transmitter is easy and a USB connection to your PC simplifies set up using free Windows configuration software. Units support mounting in DIN Form B sensor heads or on a DIN rail. They are CE compliant with pending UL/cUL Class 1 Div 2 Zone 2 approvals and operate reliably over a -40 to 80°C operating range. The Average AGE of a Video Games Player is 37 Years Old

“Just Because They’re Called Games Doesn’t Mean They’re for Children,” Says Haris Orkin, Co-writer of Call of Juarez: The Cartel - According to the Entertainment Software Association’s most recent statistics, the average video game player is 37 years old and doesn’t live in his parent’s basement.

“Video games make a convenient scapegoat for social ills just as comic books and rock music did in the 60’s and Hip-Hop did in the 90’s,” claims Call of Juarez and Dead Island co-writer Haris Orkin. “Certain politicians use video games as a political football to distract their constituents from the real issues. They want to make it appear that they are doing something to protect children, but the truth is the ESRB (Entertainment Software Rating Board) has a strong rating system in place that gives parents all the information they need and already prevents retail stores from selling children games rated M.”

The U.S. Supreme Court just recently ruled that video games should be afforded the same First Amendment protections as any other form of media. Justice Scalia, who delivered the majority opinion, pointed out that “Like the protected books, plays, and movies that preceded them, video games communicate ideas – and even social messages—through many familiar literary devices (such as characters, dialogue, plot, and music) and through features distinctive to the medium (such as the player’s interaction with the virtual world).”

3D-DRAM Technology Increases Memory Density over Conventional DRAMs

The NAND flash memory industry has been pursuing 3D technology with shared lithography steps with polysilicon transistors for some time now. At MonolithIC 3D Inc., we use single crystal silicon transistors, and that allowed us to apply these concepts to DRAM.”

The technology leverages a technique known as ion-cut to stack high-quality single crystal silicon layers at low thermal budgets. Ion-cut is the dominant technology used for producing silicon-on-insulator (SOI) wafers for logic technologies today and has been in manufacturing for more than 10 years. Several companies such as Silicon Genesis and Twin Creeks Technologies are exploring its use for solar as well.
