Dispose your old Electronics home used dumped items for Recycling, that to Free from Crutchfield Store

After a record-shattering turnout for an electronics recycling event in January, the Charlottesville-Albemarle community will get another opportunity to properly dispose of old electronics for free.

The location for the April 26 event is once again the Crutchfield store at Rio Hill Shopping Center, and it runs from noon to 4. The event is being held on a Sunday rather than a Saturday because traffic is generally much lighter on Sundays.

To keep the lines moving, there’s a limit of three items per household. There was no limit at the January event, and volunteers unloading the vehicles struggled to keep up when trucks and vans arrived with full payloads. This time, traffic will be directed to the front door of the Crutchfield store, where three items can be quickly unloaded.

To keep potentially harmful substances out of landfills, area residents are encouraged to bring in electronic items such as televisions, computer monitors, computers, printers, copiers, phones, stereos and VCRs. Batteries, CDs. DVDs, and toner cartridges are also acceptable. Electric items such as lamps, hair dryers, fans, toasters and power tools are not acceptable. The turnout for the January event proved that Charlottesville-area residents are well-informed about the potential hazards of e-Waste and are motivated to properly dispose of it. More than 218,577 pounds (109 tons) of electronics were collected at the event, which is believed to be a new state record for a one-day event.

The January event was funded by an anonymous local foundation and supported by Albemarle County, AERC Recycling, the Charlottesville Community Design Center, the City Of Charlottesville, Crutchfield, Papa Johns Pizza, the Rivanna Solid Waste Authority, the Thomas Jefferson Planning District Commission and University of Virginia Recycling.

The upcoming event is sponsored by Sony and Crutchfield. Participants can get a coupon good for $50 off select TVs when dropping off items for recycling during this event. The coupon is good on Sunday, April 26 only.
